Nolan Smith (born July 25, 1988, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland), is a junior guard for the Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team. Smith is the son of the late Derek Smith, a former forward of NBA and University of Louisville fame. Before coming to Duke, Nolan played for St. John's College High School during freshman year and then played at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. All-America honors as a high school senior in 2007. His career high at Duke is 24 points in a win over Charlotte in 2009. Beginning his sophomore year, he was named the starter at point guard for the Blue Devils, effectively making three-year starter (and team tri-captain) Greg Paulus a reserve. As of March 24, 2010, Smith was 16 points short of joining Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler as 600+ point scorers for 2009-10; in 2001-02, Jason Williams, Carlos Boozer and Mike Dunleavy accomplished that feat
